Great Food: Nederland

As I have been spending more time up by the Dory Lakes Neighborhood, I have been interested in finding good food and restaurants nearby.

Nederland is a cool mountain town about 3,000 ft above Boulder, and only 15 minutes from Dory Lakes with exciting winter snow sport options and a host to tons of summer activities and hiking in the warmer months. It’s known for the Eldora Mountain Resort, a great place to alpine and Nordic ski in the winter.

In addition to recreation, Nederland has some cool new restaurants, breweries, and coffee shops that really make this place an awesome town to experience. Here are a few of my favorites:

Wild Mountain Smokehouse and Brewery offers some amazing BBQ and micro brewed beers that are quite tasty. They also have a epic view from their patio, overlooking the Middle Boulder Creek  and the Indian Peaks Mountain Range.

Salto Coffee Works is a great coffee shop with a cool interior space and a patio with a cozy fire pit. They offer really tasty food dishes, house-roasted coffee, and as well as draft beer and a selection of wine.  In the warmer months they often host live music on the patio which can be a fun outing for the familySalto is also connected to Tin Shed Sports, a cool bike and outdoor shop.

Crosscut Pizzeria and Tap house offers artisan wood-fired pizza and craft beers.  After starting as a mobile wood-fired oven pizzeria, they recently renovated a 100 year old rustic building and opened as a permanent restaurant in 2015. The pizza features local and organic ingredients. Gluten free options are available as well. A delicious choice!

Best Sandwich in Golden-D’Deli

I spend a lot of time in downtown Golden, meeting clients, friends and college students.  As a result I have been known to frequent the many restaurants along Washington Avenue.  I have to say, the place with the longest lines is consistently a place called D’Deli.  D’Deli is a small sandwhich shop right on Washington Avenue.  If you are looking for a unique sandwhich, its hard to go wrong with this place.  With bread made fresh every day, and over 120 choices for toppings, it is hard to miss with this place.  Whether you are in to a simple “staple” turkey or roast beef sandwich, or a monster with every topping known to man, you will find what you are looking for.  I prefer the piggly wiggly, just some brisket and ham with barbeque sauce and pineapples, but some of my college friends are known to go for such delights as the ‘Firecracker” or the “Calamity Jane.”

The atmosphere is great as well, with cozy indoor seating and outdoor seating right on Washington Avenue.  On a warm Golden afternoon, D’Deli will be swarmed with locals trying to grab one of the priced outdoor tables in the shade.  I highly recommend D’Deli to anyone wanting a unique Golden experience and a great sandwich!  For more reviews, click here.

The Golden Diner-a local favorite

The Golden Diner in Golden CO

The Golden Diner in Golden CO

On a cold and snowy november morning, I have to say that The Golden Diner hit the spot!!  I just met a friend there for breakfast before starting my day in downtown Golden.  It is a favorite of locals and tourists alike here in Golden.  Located on 12th St., a half block East of Washington ave, The Golden Diner sits in a quiet corner of Golden.  The restaurant has been open since 2009 and was voted the best breakfast in Jeffco in 2010, 2011, and 2012, and voted best lunch in Jeffco in 2012.   For breakfast, I prefer the traditional 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast.   The Golden Diner menu is full of great options though, including blueberry pancakes, biscuits and gravy, lots of omlette choices and the “hobo” which includes scrambled eggs, peppers, onions, and hashbrowns cooked together and topped with cheddar cheese!  There is much more to choose from, including great lunch items like Golden’s best homemade port green chili.  If you are looking for a breakfast place with great old town atmosphere, The Golden Diner is a great choice.  Bring a friend for a chat, or bring the family on a Saturday and experience it for yourself!

Best Burgers in Golden, CO

A burger from Bob’s Atomic Burgers

Golden has lots of great options for food, but I have to say that one place has risen above the rest when it comes to a classic American burger!  Of course this is my opinion, but because I work right in the heart of downtown, you can bet I have tried everything!  I hate to admit how many times I have eaten out in Golden, but lets just say that packing a lunch every day rarely crosses my mind.

Bob’s Atomic Burgers has  my vote as the best burger in Golden.  Not only are the owners great people who contribute a lot to Golden non profits, and the community on the whole, but the burgers are amazing. The burgers come sizzling right off the grill, fresh as can be.  There are a plethora of choices for toppings from a fried egg, to grilled green chilis and much more. You have a large choice of sauces as well,  from the hottest of hot sauce, to A1 steak sauce, to ketchup and mustard.  For those who need a healthier meal, try the quinoa burger.  I have never tried the quinoa, but my wife loves it!!

We have been here many times with friends, family, and my real estate clients.  No one I know has ever left dissapointed.  For a classic all american burger experience, give Bob’s a try.  For more see the website below.
