I am so excited to be a part of the Grand Traverse this year with #TeamTheri. Zaac Mares and myself (Jeff Fox) will be racing the legendary 40 mile Grand Traverse from Crested Butte to Aspen on March 23-24 in order to raise money and awareness for the Emmanne Children’s Home in Theri, Kenya. Our goal is to finish of course, but also raise money to finish building a permanent children’s home for the community of Theri. I have been part of this organization for several years now and am a current board member. After several trips to Theri, we have simply fallen in love with this community and its people and are burdened by the overwhelming needs that are ever present.

Through several trips to Theri, we – along with the Emmanne Team of Matthew Bachali, Mwangi Ndegwa, and a local team on the ground – initially identified 11 orphans who lived in the community, but no longer had a home. After raising some funds from friends and the church community, we were able to secure a house, a house mother and a plan to get these kids enrolled in school, provide them adequate food, and put a roof over their heads. We soon learned, however, that there are many more orphans in the community (over 80 in the high school alone) and that we needed a permanent facility to house a growing number of children! The needs of these kids are complex. They not only need housing and food, but they need a proper education to help give them a way out of the poverty that has become a way of life. Through out this process, we have also hired people in the community and have found some amazing volunteers from the United States and Kenya that have been helping these children with schooling, spiritual care, and to give them hope of a future. We are currently in the process of building the first story to house 16 kids, but we want to be able to finish the second story so that we can add more kids as soon as possible.
In our 40 mile ski from Crested Butte to Aspen, we will be thinking and praying for these kids and this community, and would love to have you all join us in raising awareness and funds in order to finish the second story of our children’s home.
We will be making a visit to Theri in February and we will continue to add information, pictures and details on what we are up to. Will you join us in our quest? To donate, feel free to click on the link below and put #teamtheri in the comments section. Thank you so much!!!
